Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS and also Friday, August 17, 2018 from 11:00-12:00 at First United Methodist Church, with the funeral following at 12:00. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. Rev. Bob Whiteside will conduct the service.

Mrs. King was born on April 13, 1953, in Jackson to the late Ford Barlow and Dorothy Smith Higdon. She graduated from Wingfield High School. She attended the University of Mississippi on a Jones Academic Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and German. She attended Mississippi State University and earned a Master of Science in Mathematics. While she was there, she met her husband, Hub, a fellow Mathematics graduate student. At Ole Miss, she was awarded the Taylor Medal in Mathematics her junior and senior years.

Mrs. King was a long time resident of Starkville and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an Instructor of Mathematics at MSU for 28 years. She enjoyed traveling, home décor, the Christmas season, and solving the occasional differential equation. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her four grandchildren teaching counting and reading. Nancy’s love and devotion for her husband, children, and entire family were the foundations of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Barlow and Dorothy Higdon.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Herbert Allan King; three sons Jefferson Allan King (Stevanie) of Starkville, William Higdon King (Paige) of Oxford, Ross Conner King (Elizabeth) of Houston, TX; daughter Anne Caroline King Forks (Miles) of Oxford; grandchildren Anne Audrey King and Davis Allan King of Starkville, Catherine Elise King of Houston, Claire Posey King of Oxford, and two on the way; sister Judy Higdon Gray (Sam) of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home (805 N Flag Chapel Rd, Jackson, MS 39209) or your favorite charity.
